My last camping trip was amazing. My husband and I went to Bow Willow camp ground off the S2 north of ocotillo, Ca. It’s a nice campground. It has bathrooms and picnic tables, firepits and ramadas. It was beautiful weather. About 75° . perfect for hiking. My husband got there a couple days before me to get a spot before they filled up due to the holiday weekend. We had a fire at night to cook steak and potatoes. We had hamburgers and French fries as well. Food seams to taste better over a fire. We took a couple hikes. Saturday we hiked to the right of the campground towards Carriso gorge. We hiked up to some rocky ridges looking for Quartz crystals. We found alot of it . mixed in was black tourmaline. Very brittle but still beautiful as far as rocks go. It’s fascinating how these crystals form over millions of years. We were out for about 5 hours and 5 miles later. Then Sunday we hiked to the left of Bow Willow over to the palm grove which there is a campground there as well. It’s called Twenty One Palms. It has bathrooms but more primitive. Anyway, it was a great hike as well. The palm grove is beautiful with all the palms. Birds were singing and eating the little date seeds that these palms produce. There was water as well. Then up the side of the mountain where the trail leads. Quite the up hill but an excellent work out. Got back to camp after another 5 miles and 4 hours. Slept good that night. My husbamd amd I had a great time just getting away out into nature. So much solitude and lots of other people were enjoying it too. Try this campground when you’re in the area. You won’t regret it. The stars are incredible.
