The other day I was craving Chicken Vegetable soup so I went to the store and picked up some great vegetables, chicken breasts and some low sodium chicken broth. Got my solar oven out. It was a nice sunny brisk fall day. And perfect for solar cooking. I placed in direct sun opened it up to preheat while I made the soup.
I let it get to about 300 degrees. making sure the oven glass door was in the sun , put the soup in and let it cook.
I checked on it a few times making sure it was still lined up with sun, using the bar that tilts the oven(which is in the back of the oven) to closer a line it as the sun moves. I started the soup in the late morning so it was done in about 3 hours. It tuned out perfect. The flavor, the vegetables, the chicken. My husband really liked it too!! I’ll have to make more soups this year.
Solar ovens are so handy and easy to use and its free energy. There are so many makes and models and DIY kits out there. You can cook, bake practically anything in them. They are even good dehydrators. I have had mine for years and they are not to hard on your budget. And the Sun is mostly out in Southern California.
